<aside> 💡 A FEW NOTES
How to Use This: It’s probably better to access it on a computer or tablet so you can see the columns appropriately. Ignore the Step column - it’s just there for formatting. The Req. column tells you which rubric requirement is being referred to. The Task column is just a rewording of what’s on the rubric for that requirement + any notes that are needed for the requirement that I’ve pulled from other students/course announcements/etc. The Tips and Resources column will have videos to reference to help complete the requirement, troubleshooting tips I found during that step, and notes on common mistakes from other students/instructors. Basically, when you get to each row you want to read it straight across to see requirement > how to complete > tips and tricks.
There’s a great walkthrough that was initially a student Reddit post ; the student helped many people troubleshoot in the comments area so check here if you get stuck as you go and my notes aren’t helping.
You’ll open some of the front end files at some points to make sure you’re connecting your front and back end properly. Do not alter the front end files in any way. It’s mentioned in the rubric that this isn’t allowed for this course.
Initially you won’t be able to see whether the project is functioning or not because you won’t connect the front end and back end until later. I’ll specify when you can verify functionality within the walkthrough.
You can bypass the lab environment and work on the project locally if you prefer. I wouldn’t recommend it since you’d have to download extra software, find extra files, and then you’ll still need to test in the lab environment to make sure it works there for the evaluators. This course gives you ample lab time (40hrs) and you’re pushing to Gitlab after every step so it’s not a huge hassle to come back to the lab environment and reopen everything later. However, if you choose the local route, every time I mention finding a file in the lab environment you can find some of those files in the D288 Course Search area and others of them you will have to pull from the lab environment anyway. There are also instructions in Course Announcements on everything you need to download.
